does the main power socket inside a computer have to match up with a new power supply?
im changing my old power supply which had a 24 pin connector but the new one only has 18 pins, will it still work if i finish connecting everything?
Take your old power supply with you to the computer store and make sure you get the correct type. Do not use the new one you bought.
